Interview Events

If you are scheduled to attend an upcoming Interview Event, you must bring a copy of your Praxis II registration ticket to your interview. Final emergency registration deadline is April 22, 2011 10:59PM CST.

Once an application has been reviewed (generally within two weeks of submission), the applicant may be invited to attend an Interview Event. Individuals can check the status of their application and sign up for an interview, if invited, through our online system. If invited, candidates are encouraged to schedule an interview date right away, as spots fill quickly.

The Memphis Teaching Fellows’ rigorous interview and selection process will require candidates to demonstrate their potential to successfully challenge, motivate, and influence their students. Interviewees will be asked to:

  • Teach a five-minute lesson to the larger group
  • Structure a written response to a classroom scenario
  • Participate in a group discussion centered around a topical issue in education
  • Engage in a one-on-one interview with the Memphis Teaching Fellows program.

*Please note that not all applicants will be invited to interview.

An interview event lasts five to six hours and includes a chance to interact with experienced Memphis City Schools teachers and administrators. Most interviews take place on weeknights and weekends at various locations in Memphis. More specific information about the process is provided in the Interview Guide, which candidates receive if they are invited to an interview.

If you have been invited to attend an interview event, click here to sign up now. If you have problems scheduling your interview online, please contact the Fellows office at 901-416-1038 or info@memphisteachingfellows.org.

Interviewees will typically be notified of their application status within two weeks of the Interview Event. At that time, selected candidates will be given an Enrollment Packet, with additional information on the program and a deadline by which to enroll in Memphis Teaching Fellows.

The MTF selection process is extremely competitive and not all interviewed candidates will be offered admission into Memphis Teaching Fellows. We understand that being denied acceptance can be discouraging; however we cannot accommodate requests for personalized feedback on individual applications. There is no appeals policy and all decisions are final.

We recognize that some candidates will be traveling to Memphis for their interviews and understand that coordinating travel plans for an Interview Event is sometimes difficult. We are generally unable to make scheduling exceptions or accommodate last-minute requests. We encourage candidates to plan ahead and contact us with questions specific to their situations. For candidates traveling to the Memphis for an interview, we strongly advise that the Interview Event be scheduled before making travel arrangements.
